The migrant blood-suckers were first detected here in 1965. But in research just published, ODU scientists say Gulf Coast ticks have established permanent, self-sustaining populations near the Great Dismal Swamp in Chesapeake and Suffolk, and around Back Bay in Virginia Beach - and perhaps in Portsmouth, too.
